Helping Same Sex Couples is a Specialty of Rings Unique

It is such a privilege to get to know persons as individuals, not as "customers" and feel like you have become part of their lives and special occasions.
A few years ago, we helped Cynthia and Kit with their engagement rings, both princess cut gemstones in their Imagine rings, one a pink sapphire the other an emerald. Both are still look fabulous.

Center wide ring served as the engagement ring for both.

Then, with the easing of restrictions on marriages between same sex couples, Cynthia and Kit got married in the state of Washington last summer, what a happy occasion. There wedding rings were not finished until later but how they loved them.

Custom Handcrafted Wedding Engagement Rings

Custom handcrafted wedding rings are the specialty of www.ringsunique.com We are definitely unlike most websites or jewelry stores where "unique" ring is defined by the size of the diamond. For us, a unique ring is all about balance of intricate design with a diamond or gemstone and, most importantly, completely made from scratch by a skilled jeweler. An excellent example is our Imagine collection where a beautiful natural cushion cut sapphire centers a botanical design.

Wedding Bands for a Man Keep Getting Better and Better

Wedding bands for men have developed in recent years to unique creations that please even the most fickle guys. (Yes, men can often be more difficult to please than women.) This is thanks to unique processes that utilize precious metals, gold-platinum-palladium-sterling- in very unique ways and now what we call "Alternative" metals such as Damascus steel, Cobalt Chrome, Black Zirconium and Gibeon Meteorite.
This trio of mans wedding bands features three fabulous looks, on the left a polished Damascus fine grain with an offset stripe of sterling silver, on top a fine grain Damascus with grooves that separate two finishes--an acid etched center and bead finished edges--and on the right an acid etched center of Damascus lined in Black Zirconium. These are bold, creative and handsome. I'll take all three please.

We also just finished a unique Gibeon Meteorite ring with hammered Black Zirconium edges, super cool. The Gibeon Meteorite material is finite so it would be best to order soon to make sure you get the ring you really want.

Gibeon Meteorite Wedding Rings, Cosmic-Beautiful-Finite

For many years, Rings Unique has been privileged to work with artist studios that specialize in rings made with the remains of the Gibeon Meteorite. This Meteorite fell to the earth in pre-historic times in Southwestern Africa in the country now known as Namibia. This meteorite is widely regarded as the top meteorite for jewelry due to its properties and highly intricate crystalline Widmanstatten pattern. Other meteorites exist of course and some have or are being used for jewelry but the Gibeon Meteorite is still the superior material for patterns and beauty.
However, it is a finite material. The supply will slow in the near future due to its rarity and restrictions on exports placed by the Namibian government. So, even if it is available, prices will skyrocket.
Rings Unique has developed many innovations using the Gibeon Meteorite for rings. In addition to lining this unique material in precious metals such as gold and platinum, we have also adopted non-precious metals such as Titanium, Cobalt Chrome, Black Zirconium and even our specialty Damascus steel as the lining and edges. This unique version came about because a gentleman could not decide between Meteorite and Damascus so we used both. It is a rare and stunning ring.

Unique Gemstone Engagement Ring--Aquamarine

Some women prefer a gemstone engagement ring rather than a diamond. Many colorful gemstones are available such as sapphires, emeralds and rubies. But, a lovely light blue gemstone is an Aquamarine, actually a relatively hard gemstone that should last a lifetime.
This graceful 18k white gold ring from our Driftwood collection showcases a round Aquamarine with an unusual Portuguese cut. The Portuguese cut refers to a particular type of faceting where the gem is cut with two rows of rhomboidal and three rows of triangular facets above and below the girdle. This simply means that the pavilion (the tapering bottom) of the Aquamarine has faceting all around such that the view from the top of the gemstone is fascinating, always in movement and the extra radiance is quite noticeable.

Unique Wedding Bands that Reflect Natural Surroundings, an Update on Wabi-Sabi

Recently, there was a post about the concept of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese term that celebrates the beauty of the natural world we live in, totally unpredictable, forever changing, birth and death, emergence and decay.

A recent addition to our ring Gallery is the Winter version of Wabi-Sabi, an amazing ring that is a stunning departure from the standard looks in shiny and faceted rings. This ring is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece crafted in 14k gray gold and fine silver with 18k yellow applications of gold.

What do you see in this ring? Pebbles on a shoreline, driftwood from long distant shores, perhaps thunder clouds in the sky.

Just holding this ring in my hand left me breathless. If you appreciate artistry that creates new art forms, using one's gifted imagination to depart from anything conventional, then you must appreciate the creativity and beauty in this ring.

Impeccable Design Makes an Engagement Ring Unique

It is all about design in a unique engagement ring for a woman. Sadly, however, design is seldom considered in today's mass produced manufacture of rings in favor of simply adding diamonds upon diamonds in a halo or on a shank.
But, diamonds can easily be combined with intricate design on a gold or platinum ring. A little imagination is required and then the creativity blossoms.
Check out the unique engagement rings for women on our site. By now, you realize that we specialize in unique, unusual and uncommon designs where creativity and craftsmanship reign supreme. All of our artisans for wedding or engagement rings are award winning designers and have been juried into the most prestigious shows in the US. With our focus on quality and unique styles, a wedding or engagement ring for a woman becomes a balanced masterpiece of sparkle and detail not found elsewhere.

This lovely bridal set is an excellent example of how a detailed unique design can be incorporated into a lovely ring. The engagement ring has 3 diamonds on each side of the center stone, but in different sizes. The matching wedding ring has 8 total diamonds. Each tiny diamond is flush set in the vine curls as if you were walking through a garden path and marveled at the dew drops on the curling vines and leaves. How beautiful!

Let's Get Real--Mining for Gold, Platinum and Diamonds is a Dirty Business

With Rings Unique, we stress that we are avid about ECO-FRIENDLY sources of materials and gemstones for our unique wedding, engagement and wedding bands for a man. Rings Unique believes that the privilege of adorning ourselves with precious metals such as gold and platinum along with diamonds or gemstones should never come at the cost of danger to our environment or fueling harmful activities of terror or abuse to the family of man.
Recently, these issues surfaced once again with the EPA study about the impact of a new gold and copper mine in Alaska's pristine Bristol Bay. Let's get real and face it, mining is a very dirty business. Today, there is absolutely no need to mine for gold because an abundance of gold and platinum exists worldwide from the extensive recycling of precious metals.
Even Tiffany's CEO, Michael Kowalski, sent an open letter to jewelers across the country stating "The Environmental Protection Agency has completed its final watershed assessment of the likely impact of the proposed Pebble Mine on Alaska’s Bristol Bay, the world’s most productive salmon fishery. The science is clear and leaves no doubt. The EPA’s comprehensive scientific review confirms that digging an enormous gold and copper mine in the very heart of this healthy, productive watershed cannot be done without destroying miles of streams, thousands of acres of wetlands and endangering the livelihoods of the thousands of people who depend on the salmon fishery." Read his letter here.
Rings Unique strongly joins this plea. We also want to emphasize that our artists use re-cycled and re-refined gold and platinum from Hoover and Strong's Harmony Metals program which earned the approval of the internationally respected Scientific Certification System.
Rings Unique also sources diamonds that are certified conflict free diamonds by the well known Kimberley Process begun in 2003. We also work with gemstone suppliers who have developed strong relationships with trusted networks of families in countries that produce and cut the finest gemstones in the world. In addition, we work with Chatham, the highly respected US based company that first introduced the culturing of gemstones in controlled environments decades ago.
With Rings Unique, we want you to feel absolutely certain that your ring is custom made only for you using the finest and safest materials on earth.

Tree of Life collection

We hope this blog brings awareness of the unwanted consequences of mining for adornment throughout the world. In this day and age, with the vast supply of re-refined precious metals and the use of alternative metals, the importance of the Kimberley Process, we should all be conscious of our actions and desires on planet earth.

What is your idea of a unique diamond engagement ring?

We have become trained from years of unrelenting Madison Avenue advertising to think of an engagement ring as a prong set round or square (princess cut) diamond set high in prongs on a ring with or without tiny diamonds in the shank. Today's look also includes a single or double halo of diamonds surrounding the center diamond. And, if this is what the couple wants, there are many places to obtain one.

I must also confess, the initial engagement ring for my wife was a high set 6-prong engagement ring as well, about 1.00ct. diamond, not very different from the thousands of look-a-likes found everywhere. Even though this ring was presented (and accepted) over 40 years ago, the overall look remains about the same today.

But, does it really have to? What have we learned about unique engagement rings since?

The most important thing today in 2014  is that genuine creativity for engagement rings does flourish throughout America so a woman can find, design and wear a truly unique engagement ring that defines her own style and personality, is a show stopper when seen by others and is the envy of her circle of friends and colleagues because her fiance took the time and had the imagination to seriously search for a design that was uncommon and unusual...unique just like his fiancee.

We are privileged to help couples find and create the perfect engagement ring that separates unique from common, becomes an heirloom to be treasured for a lifetime.

Recently, local couple, Meredith and Serge, had the vision to create a unique engagement ring. She is a professional woman and he a professor. What a fabulous couple!

Inspired by the unique rings in our cases, we proceeded to custom make a two-tone-yellow and rose gold-engagement ring with a large triangle diamond. Her snug fit wedding ring in white gold added the third color of gold to her bridal set. How fantastic!

At Rings Unique, we hope the designs and options inspire you to imagine your own perfect engagement ring that defines who you are and what you will be most proud of as you undertake your journey together over a lifetime.
