Geometric Sculptural
Owner's Comment
It’s all about precision geometry. Note the sharp definition of arches, angles, circles and squares. Polished gold follows a perfect line against a matte finish. Hammered textures are mixed with smooth rods or surfaces for amazing contrasts. A ring truly becomes an artful sculpture to wear. A glance at your ring is a brief visit to the Museum of Modern Art.
Most of these rings have multiple components, some cast and others fabricated by hand. One of these Contemporary bands may have as many as a dozen individual pieces that need to be fused together for a final long lasting ring.
This is the epitome of metal arts sculpting but on a very small scale. However as much care goes into a single ring that goes into 20 foot outdoor sculpture for a garden. And, think of the wear and tear a ring will get in a lifetime. It must endure many bumps, dings and scrapes that don’t really damage the ring, just give it character and your own personality.
It is hard for me to pick a favorite, I love them all and would happily wear any one of them. If I had to pick just one, however, it would be the first one in the top row, the Arches ring. I love the open spaces and sharp angles. It reminds me pushing the envelope architecture and as such, I call it my “Fountainhead” ring. Have you read Ayn Rand’s 1943 powerful book about architect Howard Roark’s uncompromising personal and artistic vision. Or have you seen the 1949 movie starring Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal. Put these on your “must do” list.
