Mokume Gane
Owner's Comment
Most men love wood and many are woodworkers. So, picture a piece of plywood but instead of many layers of wood, envision layers of gold and other precious metals instead. This is the difficult art of patterned metalworking, called Mokume Gane, Japanese for wood grain metal. Centuries of Samurai sword making is reinvented for unique rings of unparalleled beauty and strength.
Essentially, this is mixed metal lamination where alternating and different colors and types of precious metal are layered in a billet. Through multiple steps and processes, the billet is folded and fused, ending up as a impeccable ring with “rivers of gold.” The beauty and strength of these rings is mesmerizing and of all the rings on our site, these are also the best at endurance over a lifetime. Every nick and scrape your ring receives only adds to the character and personality of your ring. It becomes so much a part of you that you will never part with it. It reflects your life, rewards and hardships, at every glance.
Some people think the coloring is only on the surface. But, the colors permeate the entire ring. There could be as many as 25 layers of metal, some only revealed decades from now as more texture from wear and tear slowly permit the intricate patterns to develop. Each ring is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
