Recently, we had the fun of making matching wedding rings in Damascus stainless steel for a couple. Each ring had two 1mm stripes of 14k white gold set near the edges, then we acid etched the outer sides of the rings and polished the center.
Interestingly, this began as an Anniversary gift for the husband but the woman liked the ring so much that she decided to add one for herself.
There have been many occasions where we have made matching Damascus or Forged wedding rings for a couple. However, this was the first time we used the double white gold stripe. Beautiful and unquestionably unique.
Damascus stainless steel wedding rings are derivative from centuries old carbon steel used in many world wide cultures in swordmaking. These swords are characterized by beautiful patterns of layering and banding including mottling reminiscent of flowing water. These were very tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. Often the patterns were distinctive to region, tribe or group in the area.
